Celebrated 20 Years of Love, Hope, and Care

For two decades, the orphan care ministry has been a place of refuge, compassion, and opportunity for children in need.

Through the dedication of our staff, volunteers, supporters, and community countless lives have been touched and transformed.

We celebrate 20 years of nurturing hearts, building futures, and sharing hope. Together we honor the past, celebrate the present, and look forward to the many lives still to

be impacted in the years ahead. We celebrate every child, every supporter, and every moment that has made these 20 years of impact possible.

We are so grateful we were able to be there in June to celebrate with the children and staff.

It truly was a wonderful day for everyone. The children sang and performed cultural dances throughout the afternoon, the guards presented their marching display, and the catered food was excellent. Our friends and evangelists, Dalitso Matekenya and Craig Hobbs, shared a message of encouragement. We were especially blessed to have 22 former children return to celebrate with us—many of whom were part of the very first group served a meal back in 2005.

This celebration marks twenty years of serving children with the love of Christ. It is a reminder of God’s steady hand and the power of faithful obedience. As we move forward, we remain committed to ensuring every child who comes through our doors encounters the hope and belonging found in Him.

We ordered enough food for 300, but served almost 400 people that day. When the Hope House children and employees were served we started giving meals to the children that lived

close by that came to watch all that was going on that day. It was a day to always remember.

NEWSLETTERS DELAYED

In 2025 we are grateful to spend two months in Malawi. It was a meaningful time to be with the children, encourage the staff, and see the ongoing work of the ministry firsthand. However, during the second half of our stay, Jim began having significant health difficulties, which made the final weeks challenging. Soon after returning home, he underwent two major surgeries. This unexpected season of health challenges required much of our time and

attention, and that is the reason our newsletters have been delayed. We are grateful for the Lord’s care through it all and for the many prayers and encouragement we received during that time.

Our daughter Heather, and grandson David were with us, and their presence helped us in many areas. David held a small crocodile and many other first for him.

Heather helped with office work, medical visits but most of all playing with the children.

They enjoyed their trip very much.

CHRISTMAS 2025

Christmas was a joyful and memorable time for the children this year. One of the highlights was receiving new raincoats. Their smiles and laughter as they tried them on were such a blessing to witness. These simple gifts not only meet a practical need but also remind the children that they are loved and cared for. The Christmas party was planned for all three locations to gather at HH3. Heavy rains made travel difficult, so the celebration was postponed until New Year’s. The day began beautifully, but by afternoon the rain returned so

heavily that the lorry couldn’t make it back to pick up the children. They had to walk a long distance until the road became passable again. What could have been a discouraging situation turned into a moment of joy.

The managers turned the walk into a game, filling the journey with laughter and excitement. Their creativity helped transform a challenge into a fun adventure for the children. We are deeply grateful for the kindness and generosity of everyone who makes moments like this possible. The employees continue to help bring joy, hope, and meaningful provision to the children in ways that truly matter.

The vision to feed a few children in 2005 has expanded to feed 225 children in three locations. We had no idea Hope House was going to grow to this level but His plans are not our plans! We invite you to sponsor a child for $30 a month or donate any amount you feel led to. We also have 13 elderly and 15 infants receiving baby formula.

  UPDATE: KAY PRECIOUS CHIMBALU

We are excited to share an encouraging update about Precious,

one of the first children who came to HH back in 2005.

Many of us have watched him grow from a young boy into a determined young man, steadily working toward a brighter future.

Today, we are proud to celebrate that Precious is now serving as a policeman. His achievement is a powerful reminder of how love, guidance, and opportunity can transform a life. It also inspires the younger children at HH, who now look up to him as a living example of what is possible. Stories like his, renew our hope and strengthen our commitment to this work.

Inflation’s impact on Malawi Effecting Hope House

Malawi’s headline inflation is about 24.9%, it helped by easing food prices, but the cost of living remains under intense pressure. The situation worsened in January 2026 when fuel prices were raised by over 41%, pushing petrol to MWK 4,965 per liter — the equivalent of about $11 per gallon here in the US. This is one of the highest effective pump prices in the

world.

This fuelshock is now the strongest driver of rising nonfood inflation, as transport, manufacturing, and distribution costs surge across the economy. With nearly all goods moved by road, the $11 per gallon burden is expected to ripple through food prices, services, and essential commodities, potentially reversing recent progress in lowering headline inflation.

Hope House leadership decides daily how to manage the fuel cost. We go after sick children and elderly to take to the hospital. They will always take sick to the hospital no matter how much fuel goes up. However, things that are not immediate, must wait.

HHOC accepts all HIV and special needs children. The village chiefs approve all children.

In 2025, Hope House elected a new board. These nine men and women are ready to help where needed. They are interested, willing, and want to make improvements wherever they can.
